Harrisburg, PA, January 18, 2011 -- Harrisburg University of Science and Technology will host the BioEnergy Summit on March 15, 2011. The theme for the event is Innovative Technologies for an Energized Future!. The commercialization of technologies and processes used to produce bioenergy from a variety of biomass resources highlights this half-day program. The BioEnergy Summit will also explore innovative nanotechnologies for bioenergy production and technologies for producing energy from wastewater.

Keynote speaker Dr. William Goldner of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) will give an overview of the strategic thinking and programs USDA NIFA and other USDA agencies are using to address the sustainable production of biofuels, biopower, and biobased products. The programs include: regional systems-oriented programs that integrate research, education, and extension/outreach/ technology transfer; pre-commercialization R&D for small businesses; and grant and loan guarantee programs for demonstration and commercialization. Dr. Goldner will provide some examples of how businesses may use these programs to take part in this important renewable energy sector. He will also discuss the need to include emerging technologies such as nanotechnology and waste water management in developing bioenergy and the need for a thoughtful integrated approach to grow bioenergy, water quality and availability management systems, and perhaps other emerging energy resources (e.g. natural gas) in Pennsylvania and the surrounding region without disrupting existing agricultural systems, natural resources, and rural communities.

Roundtable discussions will examine the business opportunities that can be cultivated, why sustainable energy solutions are as good for business as they are for the environment, and the importance of obtaining financial support to the commercialization process. Scientists, government officials, entrepreneurs and investors will discuss promising research, successful ventures, overcoming commercialization challenges and market-driven opportunities.

How 1% Makes All the Difference - Author Tom Connellan Shows How Small Moves Make Big Leaps Possible

There always seems to be a few companies that stand apart from the rest, in every field of business. But how big is the gap between success and mediocrity - really? Business leader Tom Connellan has found that the distance between average and awesome is often less than 1%.

Ann Arbor, MI, January 17, 2010 (Straight Line PR) -- In every type of business, there are a handful of companies that seem to stand far above the rest. But the gap between average and awesome - how big is it, really? Business leader and author Tom Connellan has discovered that the distance between success and mediocrity is often quite small - often less than one percent

"Even though your business is successful in its own right, some days you may feel like you're down in a valley, looking up at those few big players way up on the mountainside - right where you want to be," says Connellan. "You're already working hard. And it's gonna take a whole lot of effort to scale that mountain, (you think to yourself). Maybe it's okay down here in the valley after all. But let's stop and think for a minute... Is the top company 100% better than its nearest competitors? No way. 10%? Not even. In fact, in almost every field of human endeavor, all that separates the great from the exceptional is about 1%."

Connellan points to The Olympics as an example. In virtually every Olympic event, the average difference between the gold medal winner and fourth place is just 1%. Sometimes the difference is even less than 1%. When Michael Phelps won the men's 100-meter butterfly at the 2008 Beijing games, his margin over fourth place was 0.15 seconds, or just 0.33%.

Applying this concept to the business world, assume that during a given month a company's sales team focuses on being 1% better than the competition at winning new customers. One percent isn't such a huge hill to climb. Just 1%. Or perhaps the company's customer service staff makes a small change in the way they take calls, and as a result, customer satisfaction scores are on average 1% higher than the competitor's. Now translate this across all the hundreds of things that a business does every day.

Tom Connellan's new book, The 1% Solution for Work and Life explains in detail how small, incremental changes can begin to add up, steadily creating improvement for individuals and businesses alike. The 1% Solution for Work and Life ( http://TomConnellan.com/tomconnellanbooks.html ), now available at Amazon.com and through bookstores everywhere, is a practical guide to gradually improving one's job, business processes, and personal life. Presented in an easy-to-read novella form, Connellan uses his fictional characters to illustrate how his "one percent" principles can be applied successfully by anyone.

"There's no way your business can be 100% better than the competition," states Connellan. "But it doesn't have to be. It just has to be 1% better at hundreds of things - those things you're already doing every day. Do them 1% better than the competition, and you will smash the competition every time."

About The 1% Solution:
The 1% Solution for Work and Life gives readers a structure that works because it's based not upon opinion but upon research, testing, and application. The 1% Solution for Work and Life delivers page after page of tools to use right now. By establishing the habit of incremental change and improvement, readers can take stock of where they are right now in life, and put in place a plan that gently but firmly forces them, day by day, to take the actions that will lead them where they want to go. Priced at $19.95, The 1% Solution for Work and Life is available from Amazon.com ( http://amzn.to/OnePercentSolution ) and other online book retailers, or can be ordered through any local bookstore.

About Tom Connellan:
In demand as a keynote speaker by firms such as FedEx, Acura, BMW, Neiman Marcus, Canadian Tire, Marriott, Home Depot, Sobeys, and TD Canada Trust, Tom Connellan ( http://www.TomConnellan.com/ ) has gained a reputation as a "tough talking and truth telling" speaker because he delivers actionable ideas. In his previous books, Inside the Magic Kingdom: Seven Keys to Disney's Success and Turbulent Times Leadership for Sales Managers: How the Very Best Boost Sales Connellan shared his insights into building a successful business. With The 1% Solution for Work and Life, he makes his success principles accessible to everyone.

SAFE International Expands Corporate Safety Training Programs - Canada Self Defense

Canada Self Defense, SAFE International Expands Corporate Safety Training Programs.

Toronto, ON, Canada, January 17, 2011 - (Straight Line PR) -  Canada Self Defense, SAFE International Expands Corporate Safety Training Programs.

SAFE International is the leading provider of mobile self defense/personal protection training in Canada. It currently operates throughout Ontario and has taught more than 120,000 clients in the private, corporate and high school environments since 1994. SAFE International is expanding its Corporate Safety Training Programs throughout Canada. The company is owned and managed by Chris Roberts who is a professional teaching Director and self-defense instructor.

SAFE International Corporate Safety Training Seminar’s provide employees and management with tips and strategies to recognize, avoid, and handle personal security risks specific to their jobs.  Prior to the commencement of training, SAFE International instructors spend time with each company learning about their employees and communicating with Department Leaders and those employees working in the field.  It is through this personal attention that SAFE International is able to truly design a course that will have lasting positive effects for their clients and their employees.

SAFE International teaches that Recognizing and Avoiding dangerous situations is always the top priority. SAFE International instructors will address the daily routines and the risks that employees encounter in their daily jobs. Through role playing and discussion, participants will learn how to take common sense measures to reduce the risk of becoming a victim.  The knowledge they gain can be applied to all aspects of their profession - direct sales, interacting with customers and fellow employees, travel and other work related transactions.

Clients are taught how to recognize different forms of verbal abuse, and how to defuse in order to resolve conflict without violence.  Clients participate in verbal drills specific to their job related challenges.  It is through these reality based drills that your employees will develop the confidence to handle various forms of abuse, without the need to be physical, while also preparing oneself in the event that it does.  These verbal exercises can be particularly valuable when one might find themselves in an uncomfortable and potentially life threatening situation - entertaining clients, traveling, employee differences, leaving late at night by car, taxi or public transit, walking home, etc. SAFE International believes that not only is self protection a necessity, but it is now a form of insurance that will make your business more profitable and your employees more confident and secure.

The second phase of a SAFE International Corporate Safety Course is the physical aspect which addresses how to React and Respond in the event that conflict becomes physical. Participants are taught basic, gross motor self defense skills meant to help one get away safely and as quick as possible.  The principles of their teachings are based on how to react instinctively without having to think about what to do. This is not martial arts, but rather, real skills meant for real life scenarios. SAFE International is a complete course covering everything from A to Z in corporate safety training. SAFE International addresses the emotional, psychological, verbal and physical segments of violence in today’s world.

Chris Roberts, CEO of SAFE International also trains/consults people privately on a weekly basis. Private clients include mothers, fathers, daughters, police officers, seniors, and people with disabilities. Family IQ has Launched a New Marketing Webinar with the Help of Rod Stinson

Family IQ is a successful 10-year old company with a "super product" that was just converted into a top-tier/network marketing business model.

Eagan, MN, January 16, 2011 -- Family IQ has Launched a New Marketing Webinar with the Help of Rod Stinson. Having a great marketing presentation will make your business succeed Nilsson says. Home business is all about marketing and driving traffic. Most people struggle with this activity and this is why there is a 97% failure. Family IQ’s new marketing presentation will help people make sales. People will either want to get involved and call you for more information or they will decide it is not for them. Either way you have people make a decision.

Family IQ is a successful 10-year old company with a "super product" that was just converted into a top-tier/network marketing business model. The company attached a fantastic front-end/back-end COMBO compensation plan considered the first and only one of its kind. You earn $1,000 every personal sale, PLUS TWO residual income streams down to nine levels. I don’t think there’s a better or faster way in the home-based business industry - or anywhere - to reach a SIX figure income than with Family IQ Nilsson says.

Nilsson says, After intentionally staying on the fringe of the Home Business/Network Marketing Industry for a dozen years, it was obvious that My Family IQ and Rod Stinson had the perfect combination of product, leadership, training and appropriate market timing. It’s very rare to have all of these elements come together in one powerful structure all at the same time. Together we can make a huge and important difference in people’s lives.

If you are interested in learning more on how Chad Nilsson can help you, Mr. Nilsson can be reached at 651-330-8032 or visit him online at: Chad.nilsson@gmail.com or http://www.MyFIQ.ChadNilsson.com

Canadian Company Launches World’s First International Golf Café Franchise

If there was ever any doubt that golfers are fanatical about their sport, witness an amazing trend that golfers in South Korea have started.

Vancouver, British Columbia, January 15, 2011 -- If there was ever any doubt that golfers are fanatical about their sport, witness an amazing trend that golfers in South Korea have started. In 2003, South Korea, a country with an estimated population of just under 49 million, had 300 virtual golf cafes up and running. Today, there are over 5,000 virtual golf cafes catering to roughly 200,000 golfers who play virtual golf on a daily basis. This trend has not been lost on the brand new franchise Links Golf Café in their quest to bring North America’s first virtual golf café to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Utilizing about Golf’s PGA TOUR-endorsed golf simulators, Links Golf Café is looking to capitalize on the golfer’s passion to play, regardless of weather conditions, in a social atmosphere that provides ‘eater’tainment, where golfers will get more than just access to world class golf courses with their coffee and sandwich. "Our goal is to create an amazing sense of arrival coupled with a ‘wow experience for our clientele. Whether you are a golfer or not, we want to amaze you!", says Allen Bonk - Vice President - Franchise Sales & Marketing for the parent company ‘Aegis Golf ’. "Not only will we be providing access to the world’s best golf courses, we will have the food, beverage, and service to compliment it. Imagine ordering up a mouth-watering a Panini sandwich, a fresh-roasted gourmet organic coffee, and heading over to one of our PGA TOUR simulators to play Pebble Beach or St. Andrew’s. We aim to create an entertainment and dining experience that anyone who enters one of our cafes won’t soon forget."

The battle for entertainment dollars in the food and beverage industry is not a new one. Companies have been looking for that magic combination of providing entertainment with food and beverage service for years. With virtual golf becoming as popular as dart boards and billiards tables, a new player is emerging in the industry and Links Golf Cafes will look to rival traditional entertainment outlets like bowling alleys for that coveted market share. Having the ability to play in golf leagues against both local golfers and golfers across the world is a concept that no current venue can compete with. "The concept that our customers will have the opportunity to play virtual golf on the world’s most famous courses against other golfers from across the world ‘in real time’ is incredibly exciting," says Bonk "The US has a very high number of golfers per capita (1 in 6 on average) and Americans always have a place to play, regardless of the weather outside."

With 24 Links Golf Café franchises already awarded across the United States, the buzz about Links Golf Café is definitely catching on. And with conservative plans to have 15 virtual golf cafes up and running in Canada by the end of 2012, and 77 more by the end of 2018, this is just the beginning for the company who will bring the world’s first international golf café franchise to Vancouver in the summer of 2011.

DolomiteMountains.com Now Offers Option of Self-Guided Trips

Dolomite Mountains, the experts in adventure travel to the Dolomites, announces the option to take self-guided tours in groups of two or more.

Parker, CO, January 13, 2011 -- Dolomite Mountains, the experts in adventure travel to the Dolomites, announces the option to take self-guided tours in groups of two or more.  This option offers independent travelers the freedom to explore the locale at their own pace and within their own schedule, and the flexibility to build a customized trip based on their personal preferences.

Travelers who enjoy adventure trips but prefer to not be held to a strict schedule now have the ability to create their own itineraries for exploring the breathtaking Dolomites while experiencing just about everything they could on a guided tour.

A few of the many activities that can be built into a self-guided tour in the Dolomites include:

*   Road or mountain biking
*   Traveling from Cortina d’Ampezzo to Alta Badia
*   Day hiking from a B&B "base camp" or hotel
*   Hiking from rifugio to rifugio

There is also the option to combine self-guided trips with guided day trips for things such as rock climbing or climbing a via ferrata.  Guided tours can also be incorporated into self-guided vacations for one or several days, based on preference.

Guests have the option to choose from several existing self-guided itineraries or a customized itinerary may be created to accommodate specific needs or desires. Travel plans can vary from one week trips to more extended journeys. In some cases, guests can save up to 20% by choosing a self-guided version of a guided tour.

Upon arrival, a representative for Dolomites Mountain will brief guests on the specifics of their trip, providing detailed route descriptions, maps and variations for daily hikes, information on luggage transfers and alternate transportation options, as well as inclement weather
instructions. Also provided is a prepaid Italian mobile phone pre-programmed with important contact information for trip assistance or in case of emergency.

Self-guided trips can be built to accommodate groups of any size, but for safety purposes there must be at least two participants. These trips are especially nice for families, since everyone can move at their own pace and the itinerary can be adjusted to make time for naps and meals.  There’s also the option to split off into smaller groups (of two or more), and Dolomite Mountains even offers babysitting services to allow parents a little alone time.

Dolomite Mountains is the expert in adventure travel in the Dolomites.  And because they explore it every day, they have the unique advantage of in-depth knowledge of the terrain, including which sites and trails are best, based on individual preference and skill level. Visitors traveling with Dolomite Mountains receive superior accommodations and exceptional customer service. Personalized itineraries are their specialty, ensuring that each visitor enjoys an adventure that’s perfect for their individual needs, particularly the independent traveler who prefers to explore without the use of an expert guide.

5 Things to Try While Visiting the Dolomites

In the Dolomites there are five experiences in particular that should not be missed, adventure operator DolomiteMountains.com offers a few recommendations for travelers looking for an authentic experience.

Littleton, CO, January 12, 2011 -- In the Dolomites there are five experiences in particular that should not be missed, adventure operator http://DolomiteMountains.com offers a few recommendations for travelers looking for an authentic experience.

Italy’s Dolomites, a vast mountainous region located just south of the Alps, provide visitors a stunning account of natural beauty and endless adventure. Its 90,000 acres consist of picturesque villages, rolling green pastures and steep mountain trails with breathtaking views. Traveling to the Dolomites can at first seem overwhelming, given the size and expansion of the area, so it’s a good idea to prepare a list of things to do ahead of time so you get the most out of your trip.

There are five experiences in particular that should not be missed.

Walk a via ferrata
In English via ferrata means "iron road", and it’s a unique way to traverse the mountainous paths of the Dolomites by climbing up through the use of a series of metal rungs, safety cables and bridges that form a vertical path to the summit. You need not be an experienced mountain climber, but be forewarned, the views during your ascent will most certainly stop you in your tracks.

Stay in a rifugio
Rifugios are basically mountain huts located throughout the Dolomites.  They are typically simple and rustic, however these shared facilities can be quite comfortable and can accommodate anywhere from 20-50 hikers. There are often showers available and most also serve food.

Drive the Great Dolomites Road
Open year round, this scenic route crosses Falzarego, Pordoi and Karerpass (at the renowned Rosengarten) and connects Bozen with Bolzano.

Experience Marmolada
Known as the Queen of the Dolomites, Marmolada is the highest mountain in the Dolomites. Visitors can take a cable car to the top, or hike underneath the Marmolada Glacier, located on the mountain’s north face.  The magnificent views are awe-inspiring and unmatched.

Explore the WWI tunnels and galleries
Lagazuoi Mountain boasts an intricate array of galleries and tunnels that were constructed by the Italians and Austrians during the First World War.  There is a museum you can visit, as well as the Rifugio Scotoni, which serves a delicious and highly recommended grill and vegetables dish for lunch. While you’re there, you might also consider a stay at the Rifugio Lagazuoi, located at the top of the Lagazuoi Mountains, where you can experience the best 360° views in the Dolomites.

Given the vast size of the Dolomites, there are endless scenic adventures to be had, but unless you plan on staying for an extended period of time, it makes sense to select a few activities to participate in while you’re there. The five listed above will help ensure that you get the most out of your trip and experience the very best that the Dolomites have to offer. To learn more visit: http://dolomitemountains.com

Hershey grant will fund lab start-up, contribute to new-product development

Harrisburg, PA, January 12, 2011 -- Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and The Hershey Company (NYSE: HSY) are joining forces to develop a Sensory science and consumer research program at the school’s campus located in downtown Harrisburg, Pa. The initiative includes creating a research laboratory where the University will conduct consumer taste tests on a range of confectionery products, including Hershey’s chocolate. Consumer insights obtained from the lab’s research will guide product development efforts.

"We are creating a unique research program where students will learn applied science and technology that has meaningful, real-world applications," said Dr. Eric Darr, Executive Vice President and Provost, Harrisburg University. "We want to thank Hershey for their support. This research will not only benefit the innovation work of one of the world’s best-known companies, it will give students the opportunity to gain practical experience that will prepare them for science and technology jobs."

The program’s research results will be integrated with sensory testing conducted at The Hershey Company’s Technical Center in Hershey, Pa., where professional sensory panels and employee panels provide feedback that guides ongoing new product development. "Having broad consumer input improves our ability to innovate as we develop the best-tasting and most appealing chocolate and sugar confectionery products on the market," said Dan Azzara, Senior Vice President, Global Research & Development at The Hershey Company. "This will be an exciting partnership that will keep us closely connected with consumers and influence future Hershey products as we develop innovative new forms to meet the needs of consumers.  We’re proud to continue our support of the Harrisburg University of Science and Technology."

WorldNomads.com Offer Safety Tips for Winter Travel

With the abundance of heavy snowfalls and severe winter weather WorldNomads.com advises travelers to take extreme care while visiting those areas to avoid possible injury.

Littleton, CO, January 11, 2011 -- Edinburgh, Scotland and London, England are among the many European cities that are facing severe winter weather. World Nomads cautions that although it may look like a peaceful winter wonderland, this type of weather can be more dangerous than it appears. One person was killed in St. Petersburg, Russia after being struck by a large chunk of falling ice. Several others throughout Europe have been injured and there’s more danger ahead with the big chill expected to resume at Christmas.

The US is also in the midst of major blizzards, with many areas in the Northeast and Midwest regions buried under several feet of snow, and more expected over the coming weeks. Recent storms have been blamed in the deaths of over a dozen people across five states.

Experts at World Nomads advise that snow, ice, frigid temperatures and strong winds all have the potential to wreak havoc on travel plans, so plan accordingly for delays. They suggest several safety precautions to consider when traveling during this time of year:

* Avoid walking along the periphery of buildings and keep an eye out for overhanging icicles

* Dress in layers to avoid hypothermia

* Wear good shoes or boots with plenty of grip

* Avoid driving on the roads if possible. If you must drive, drive slowly, clear your car of all snow to increase visibility. Stop regularly to remove accumulated snow and fit snow tires or chains, where appropriate

* When renting a vehicle, consider choosing one that has a GPS system that includes a "panic" or emergency button

Travel during winter months can be a wonderful experience, be it a holiday visit with family or an adventure vacation packed full of winter sports and cold-weather activities. WorldNomads.com wants to ensure that whatever your winter travel plans, that you remain safe.

Pulp Fiction Western "Cattle King For a Day" AudioBook Classic on CD Back by Popular Demand

Book publisher Galaxy Press has released a new edition of the classic pulp-era western "Cattle King For a Day" by New York Times best selling author L. Ron Hubbard. Part of the "Stories from the Golden Age" series, these reissues feature original pulp artwork and illustrations.

Hollywood CA, January 08, 2010 (Straight Line PR) -- Cattle King for a Day is the fifth western released in the famed Stories from the Golden Age classic pulp reprints, and the 31st title overall in the series. The Stories from the Golden Age series is reprinting 153 of L. Ron Hubbard's stories in 80 volumes using original pulp artwork and illustrations. The series is being simultaneously released as unabridged, multi-cast audio books with original music and sound effects. The audio books are state-of-the-art productions that capture the feel of classic radio dramas from the '30s and '40s.

Originally published in 1937, Cattle King for a Day ( http://bit.ly/cattlekingforaday ) tells the story of Chinook Shannon, who is seeking the true identity of the man who killed his grandfather, and is now after his ranch. L. Ron Hubbard's prolific career as a writer spanned fifty years and included stories in every popular genre. In addition to his westerns, he published air adventure, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, sea adventure and crime thrillers. During his lifetime, Hubbard was immensely popular. His action-packed stories were noted for their fast pace, sharp dialogue, and memorable characters.

Previously released westerns - Branded Outlaw, Under the Diehard Brand, Six-Gun Caballero, and The Baron of Coyote River - have proven equally popular with modern readers. Cattle King for a Day includes the bonus story Come and Get It. Of the 80 volumes in the Stories from the Golden Age series, 15 will be westerns. With bonus stories included in several volumes, 34 of L. Ron Hubbard's Golden Age westerns will be reprinted for the first time since their original appearance over sixty years ago.

The western was a mainstay of pulp magazines during the '30s and '40s. ( http://www.GoldenAgeStories.com/westernpulps ) During this period, it is estimated that over 30 million people read pulp magazines every month. Finding the stories memorable, pulp fans often collected the magazines, which helped preserve this vital part of American culture. Today, the Library of Congress houses an L. Ron Hubbard pulp collection. The Head of the Rare Books Collection has noted: "You look at the L. Ron Hubbard collection, an author who spoke with a very popular imagination, in terms of science fiction in particular, really shaping that field, and you see this pristine collection where you can see the enormity of his literature."

Considered by many to be the quintessential American genre, westerns remain as popular as ever. A revival of interest in L. Ron Hubbard's Stories From the Golden Age has helped rekindle interest not only in the western, but in the pulp era itself. These vital stories represent an age of swashbuckling excitement that remains unsurpassed in literary history. L. Ron Hubbard's swift tales of derring-do and unbound thrills are at the forefront of a pulp revival that shows no sign of ending.

L. Ron Hubbard's Stories from the Golden Age are being released monthly by Galaxy Press. Titles are available in eBook, paperback, and audio book formats and can be ordered from the Stories from the Golden Age website, http://www.GoldenAgeStories.com from retail book outlets, and on Amazon.com.

About Stories From the Golden Age:
Stories From the Golden Age is a line of 80 books and multi-cast, unabridged audio books, featuring 153 stories written by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1930s and 1940s in any of the several popular genres of the day - mystery, thriller, adventure, science fiction, fantasy and western - with tales appropriate for all ages from middle school and up. The cover art for the complete available library is displayed in the iBookstore and purchasing is a breeze on the new iPad. The eBooks are also available at Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com and on the Stories from the Golden Age website at http://www.GoldenAgeStories.com
