New Survey 'Shows Alternatives are Becoming the Norm', says AAA

A recent survey that found that non-stock-based investments are proving more popular among US institutional investors, has been endorsed by Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA).

Boston, Massachusetts, United States, October 05, 2012 - A recent survey that found that non-stock-based investments are proving more popular among US institutional investors, has been endorsed by Alternative Asset Analysis (AAA).

The alternative investment advocacy group claims that the results of the latest survey from Natixis Global Asset Management shows that more and more investors are turning to alternative investments due to the volatility of the stock and bond markets.

The survey questioned some 151 fund managers about their investing habits and found that 76 per cent said that investing in alternatives is an essential part of protecting their portfolio against risk. In addition, 73 per cent said they are critical in outperforming the general investment market.

“These results are among the most convincing we have seen in recent years and suggest that alternatives are quickly becoming the ‘norm’ among everyone from charities and pensions schemes to endowments and trusts,” claimed AAA’s analysis partner, Anthony Johnson.

Although, overall, stock markets have produced some more solid results this year, they are still vulnerable to major, sudden value losses in response to fluctuations in the economic conditions in countries like China and the US. As a result, many investors still see investing in asset classes like forestry, hedge funds, real estate and even gold, art and wine, as a lot less risky.

“It’s partly about getting something more tangible, with an intrinsic value, in exchange for your investment,” added Mr Johnson.

Of the managers surveyed in the Natixis study, some 88 per cent said they were satisfied with how their alternatives are performing. A huge 93 per cent said they would happily increase the amount invested in alternatives, or at least keep their investment level the same.

Forestry is a solid option for those looking at their first foray into alternative investment. Through firms like Greenwood Management, investors can own their own slice of plantation land with an initial investment of less than $20,000.

Informed Parents and Coaches Can Help Prevent Eating Disorders in Young Athletes as Fall Sports Begin

Eating Recovery Center Offers Guidance to Help Parents, Coaches and Athletes Minimize Eating Disorders Risks

Denver, Colo, October 02, 2012 - Driven athletes possess similar personality traits to individuals who suffer from anorexia nervosa, which may predispose them to the potential development of an eating disorder. For this reason, and as fall sports kick into full gear, Eating Recovery Center, an international center providing comprehensive treatment for anorexia, bulimia, EDNOS and binge eating disorder, encourages parents, coaches and athletes themselves to understand and minimize athletic activities and pressures that could potentially lead to eating disorders.

Experts agree that certain categories of sports tend to place athletes at a greater than average risk for developing an eating disorder. High risk sports often include dance, gymnastics, wresting, endurance running and swimming. In fact, research published by Craig Johnson, PhD, FAED, CEDS, chief clinical officer of Eating Recovery Center, found that at least one-third of female college athletes have some symptoms of an eating disorder.

“The same perfectionistic, high-achieving temperament that fuels athletic achievement closely mirrors the traits of individuals who tend to develop eating disorders,” said Dr. Johnson. “For this reason, it is important for athletes and their parents and coaches to be aware of and responsive to eating disorders risk factors in the athletic environment.”

To help parents of athletes reduce eating disorders risks, Eating Recovery Center offers the following guidance:

1. Keep a watchful eye for signs of over-exercising or obsession with achieving a specific weight or body size for competition.

2. Focus on the excitement of playing a sport or the importance of being part of a team, rather than on performance and wins and losses.

3. If eating disorders run in your family, be cautious about placing your child in body shape- or weight-focused sports, including those mentioned above.

Coaches can also assist in eating disorders prevention by recognizing their leadership role and exercising that influence to support the health of their athletes. Eating Recovery Center offers coaches the following advice:

1. Be mindful of the comments you make about athletes’ body types, shapes and sizes; seemingly harmless remarks can be very triggering for genetically predisposed individuals.

2. If weighing athletes or measuring body fat is a component of preparation for your sport, make efforts to privately assess athletes and keep numbers confidential when possible.

3. Open lines of communication with your athletes and engage in a dialogue if you are concerned about an individual’s weight loss or behaviors.

Additionally, individual athletes should adhere to the following recommendations to ensure safe and healthy athletic participation:

1. Focus on creating balance in your life and make time for non-athletic endeavors such as schoolwork, hobbies and time with friends and family.

2. Recognize the value of resting when you are injured or ill; pushing yourself harder during these times can result in further injury or illness.

3. Being asked to drop weight for an athletic event can be incredibly triggering; plan plenty of time for safe weight loss preparation and encourage teammates to do the same.

Eating disorders in athletes of all ages can lead to lower levels of athletic performance, organ malfunction, bone deterioration and osteoporosis, as well as cardiovascular problems. Early intervention and expert treatment from eating disorders professionals can minimize the chances for negative long-term health effects. For more information about eating disorders in athletes, visit www.EatingRecoveryCenter.com.

Five Money Myths that are Killing Consumers

The Board of Governors for the Federal Reserve recently reported that consumer credit increased at an annual rate of 3 percent, with total outstanding consumer debt at $2,577,400,000.

Phoenix, AZ, October 02, 2012 - The Board of Governors for the Federal Reserve recently reported that consumer credit increased at an annual rate of 3 percent, with total outstanding consumer debt at $2,577,400,000. That’s Trillion with a T. And when you add total mortgage debt, it skyrockets to nearly $16 trillion! And CreditCard.com reports that the national average for credit card interest rates is a whopping 14.98 percent!

Why? Because people have been lying to consumers, and it’s costing them a fortune.

But financial literacy expert, Anthony Manganiello, author of The Debt-Free Millionaire and founder of DebtFreeAcademy.com, blows the cover off the five money myths that are keeping consumers broke and in debt.

Anthony explains why these financial philosophies, these myths and lies, are wasting consumers’ time and their money. Each month, these myths—the lies that people have been buying into—are costing them thousands of dollars.

That’s because for decades, so-called “financial experts”—even our own well-meaning parents and mentors—have been perpetuating myths like:

1. A mortgage could be the biggest investment you’ll ever make. (Wrong! Good debt has been shoved down our throats as a “must have.” Anthony says “good debt” is causing consumers to lose 10, 20, 30, even 40 percent or more every year. There’s no such thing as “good debt”!)

2. In order to secure a solid financial future, you should “Pay yourself first.” (No! This financial strategy is rooted in a story written almost 100 years ago. But a few things have changed in the last century. What worked then just doesn’t work now.).

3. You need to use a budget to get ahead financially. (Please don’t! Budgeting can create a false sense of financial security. And while budgeters think they’re doing well, their financial future is slowly being stolen from them—one paycheck at a time.)

4. If you want the best for your kids, you’d better start saving for their college education right away. (False! Of course, parents want what’s best for their children. But socking away the dough NOW for their college education is not a good idea.)

5. Making more money can help you achieve your financial goals. (Sounds good, but it’s another myth! Landing a better-paying job or earning more income is always tempting. The truth is, extra income could push you from the financial frying pan into the fire. Ouch!)

These five financial myths that have been handed down in “gospel-like” fashion are—and will continue to—cost Americans a fortune. But these common money philosophies only teach one side of a very two-sided coin. And it’s the other side of the coin that’s costing consumers thousands of dollars each month.

If that sounds far-fetched, consider this…

Over the past 5 years, the average household generated at least $100,000 in income. If a two-income household earns an average full-time wage (about $50,000/year) then they’ve generated much more; a quarter of a million dollars! And while these consumers have certainly had to pay bills and taxes, bill paying and taxes aren’t the only reason why they likely have nothing to show for the hundreds of thousands of dollars they’ve already produced.

It’s as if the fortune they’re already generating is being legally stolen from them.

But with his all-new DebtFree Academy, learning the truth about getting completely debt-free is free!

With a free membership in the DebtFree Academy, Anthony will teach you first how to pull the curtain back on…

1. The “Good Debt” Myth
2. The “Pay Yourself First” Myth
3. The “Budgeting” Myth
4. The “College Funding” Myth
5. The “More Money” Myth

One you’ve learned – with simple math – how these myths work and how they suck you dry financially, you’ll then learn Anthony’s 5-Step Debt-FREE Millionaire Plan which teaches:

1. What debt and credit really are
2. How to discover your true financial position
3. How to become completely debt free
4. How to retire rich
5. How to create a “Wealth Accumulation” mentality

Learn how at www.DebtFreeAcademy.com.

The end result was the creation of the Cash-Flow Analysis™, the Cash-Flow Dashboard™ the book, The Debt-FREE Millionaire: Winning Strategies to Creating Great Credit and Retiring Rich, and now the DebtFree Academy.

Healthcare Pros Can Learn the Latest Heart Diseases Information and Trends at HealthEdSolutions.com

Online Healthcare Certification Provider Launches New Heart Disease Facts Special Section

Lincoln, NE, October 02, 2012 - Because the incidence of heart disease remains a significant health concern in the United States, it has become vitally important for healthcare professionals and first responders to understand the impact this deadly disease has on the delivery of emergency care. To help these professionals stay updated on heart disease information and statistics, Health Education Solutions (HES), a leading provider of online healthcare certification courses, today released a Heart Disease Facts special section. This series of educational articles is available in HES’ research library at www.HealthEdSolutions.com.

“Whether you are an emergency room nurse, a doctor in private practice or a first responder, awareness of the heart disease facts and trends that may influence your delivery of care is essential,” said Melissa Marks, president of HES. “At Health Education Solutions, we aim to arm these lifesaving professionals with the data they need to stay informed and the training they need to remain equipped to save lives.”

According to the American Heart Association, Americans’ cardiovascular health is “less than ideal.” More than two-thirds of American adults and nearly one-third of American children are overweight or obese. Between 1971 and 2004, average calorie consumption increased by 22 percent in women and 10 percent in men. Furthermore, growing numbers of adults and children are not meeting recommended levels of physical activity. While the most recent statistics show that the death rate from cardiovascular diseases fell 30.6 percent from 1998 to 2008, cardiovascular diseases still account for one in three deaths in the U.S.

To help healthcare professionals and first responders prepare to respond to cardiovascular emergencies, HES offers an advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification course and a pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certification course—both available online. Professionals preparing for the ACLS exam also have the option of taking the American Heart Association’s HeartCode ACLS Part 1 course. Online recertification courses are also available.

HES additionally offers basic life support (BLS) for healthcare providers, stroke certification, bloodborne pathogens training and first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) training courses. Courses are offered in a convenient online format and are a flexible option for busy healthcare professionals and first responders with nontraditional schedules.

For healthcare professionals and first responders who are preparing for the ACLS and PALS exams, HES offers a series of certification and recertification practice tests and quizzes. Available for $35, practice tests are similar to the ACLS and PALS exams, offering 50 timed, multiple-choice questions. Practice quizzes, which are available for free, each include five sample questions.

HES’ online research library offers more heart diseases information, as well as resources for career growth, data about healthcare trends and news related to healthcare and first responder certification.

About Health Education Solutions:
Health Education Solutions (HES) is a leading provider of continuing education solutions for healthcare professionals. HES, a subsidiary of Nelnet Inc. (NYSE: NNI), offers ACLS and PALS courses developed in partnership with medical faculty at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Nick Bello of LaPorte, Indiana has been a network marketer for over 15 years. He is calling Visalus, his final company.

LaPorte, IN, October 02, 2012 - Nick Bello of LaPorte, Indiana has been a network marketer for over 15 years. He is calling Visalus, his final company. After 15 years of helping people build successful home based businesses in all 50 states and 10 different countries, Nick Bello feels like he has found the home that he has been looking for. Committed to the industry and his team, Nick Bello has only been in a handful of companies in those 15 years. Nick Bello is confident that Visalus gives the average person a real shot at success.

Although not every year was as successful as others for Nick Bello in the network marketing industry, he felt like this industry was his opportunity to not only do something great for himself and his family, but help others as well. Nick Bello has had unwavered support from his wife which he calls “His Foundation.” Starting in the industry at 22 years of age, Nick Bello was living in a 2 bedroom apartment, driving a rusted 1983 Cutlass. His journey through the years has changed his lifestyle dramatically. Still living in LaPorte, Indiana, Nick Bello as well as his wife and three daughters now enjoy a large home and luxury vehicles. More so than what Nick Bello has accomplished, he is proud of the lives he has impacted in a positive way through his journey.

Nick Bello has always helped people in the network marketing industry even if they were not in his team, or not even in his company. Several people mention that they work with Nick Bello today because of his interest in helping them become successful when he had no financial gain to do so. It is his values that make Nick Bello the person that he is. He puts his faith in God to lead him in the right direction.

By joining Visalus, Nick Bello feels like he has an opportunity to help people with their health and finances. Visalus markets the #1 Health Challenge in North America, the Body By Vi challenge. With an average of 150,000 people a month joining the challenge either to lose weight or get in better shape, the company’s success and growth is astounding. When you look at the obesity epidemic sweeping across the world, it is no wonder why Nick Bello calls Visalus his final company. “This is a battle that we are waging war on. Something has to be done. With a product that works as well as the Visalus products, we are able to help people with their health and help people make significant incomes” states Nick Bello.

In Lynn Brooks’ winning essay, she wrote about beginning an organization in 1992 at age 59 called Big Apple Greeter in New York City. It is a non-profit that pairs visitors to NYC with volunteer greeters who explore the city together. This was the first “Welcome Visitor” program of its kind in the country. Today, the organization is extremely successful, but it was a challenging journey along the way. Lacking funding, support and computer skills, but holding onto a will to succeed, Lynn overcame many challenges.

Her story describes how far the organization has come. “Today we have more than 300 Greeters – most are over 55, more than 50% work, many are multilingual, some are blind or use wheelchairs. They are ready, rain or shine, to spend two to four hours with visitors, showing them our people, culture and diversity.”

Lynn also shared wonderful metrics. “In terms of success, our cup runneth over. We’ve had more than 120,000 visitors since we started. We’ve generated over two billion positive, world-wide media impressions about New York City. Ninety-five percent of our visitors give us 'extraordinary' evaluations. Our volunteer retention rate is incredibly high. We’ve been called the most cost-effective public relations arm in the city. We’ve been widely recognized, starting in our early years, with awards that run the gamut from corporations to city government, and in January we will receive the prestigious 2012 Hotel Excellence Lifetime Achievement Award.” To read her story, visit: www.ctrpl.org/later-life-story-contest-winners.

Barbara M. Traynor’s story begins with a situation that sounds familiar to many people. Yet she took some giant leaps of faith to change her life forever.

“Walking provides impetus to ponder. My 65th birthday was hovering. I was not feeling old, but sixty-five? That’s major!  Why I chose to walk the beach on a frigid winter afternoon is questionable, however with boots crunching on the frozen sand, gloved hands balled into my pockets, I reviewed my six-odd decades. Married at nineteen, three children by twenty-seven, moved eighteen times with a grass-is-greener spouse – instant on-the-job-training in how to deal with transition – and divorced after seventeen years.

“Working as an administrative assistant for over forty-five years, single mother raising three children, generated an abundant desire for freedom and travel but little savings and no pension. Life was crammed with drama and trauma. Income matched outgo. I would have to live on Social Security income alone. I screamed into the thundering surf, ‘How can I afford to go anywhere? When is it my turn?’ Surprise! Someone was listening.

“Arriving home, I checked my email. A message from Alaska cajoled: How about becoming a long-distance, long-term volunteer? Hmmmm – it seemed that some organizations supplement their staff with volunteers, offering free room and board in exchange for workplace skills? WOW! That I could spend my over 65 ‘mystery’ years this way inspired my imagination. My frozen fingers tingled. I began to rethink retirement.”

At age 65, Barbara retired and drove to Alaska from Connecticut with a mission and copious notes about sites to visit along the way. The journey to be a volunteer exploded into becoming a journalist, author and speaker as well. CPL will also select a variety of other inspirational and touching entries to post on its website.

“This contest was a tremendous opportunity for us to validate why we are passionate about later-life living,” says William Zinke, founder and president of the Center for Productive Longevity. “People from all walks of life are doing amazing things and positively impacting the lives of others along the way. These two women serve as an inspiration for us all, illustrating that success can be achieved with perseverance and passion.”

Luxury Travel Ltd. Promotes High-end Vietnam Tourism Products at WTM London 2012

Vietnam-based Luxury Travel (www.luxurytravelvietnam.com) will join the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in October to promote luxury travel products at World Travel Market London 2012 (WTM) in the UK from November 5 to 8. Stand AS480

Hanoi, Vietnam, Oct 01, 2012 - Vietnam-based Luxury Travel (www.luxurytravelvietnam.com) will join the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in October to promote luxury travel products at World Travel Market London 2012 (WTM) in the UK from November 5 to 8. Stand AS480

According to Pham Ha, founder of Luxury Travel, the UK has been a great market for the company, which has appealing products for Britons’ tastes and preferences.

“We target the right clients with personalized products and services.” said Ha.

He also noted that the company had increased the number of private small groups that it served, primarily with tailor-made holidays.

“British holidaymakers like custom and private tours, not big groups. The boom in demand suggests that holidaymakers are becoming increasingly canny and watching exchange rates as well as seeking out keenly-priced packages before deciding on their destination.” he said.

Britain’s tourists, according to Ha, picked Vietnam for their vacations for safety, affordable prices, authenticity, warm weather, and convenient direct flights.

Vietnam Airlines introduced service between Gatwick and Hanoi in December 2011, becoming the first direct flights to the country from Britain, and reducing the journey by several hours.

“With our marketing efforts and commitments, we will attract more British travelers who wish to experience Vietnam in style and luxury, and we’ll encourage them stay longer. Typical stays are 10 or 14 days, and in 5-star hotels.” he said.

Another reason for the sharp increase in Britons taking holidays in Vietnam is the recent opening of new holiday resorts in the Southeast Asian nation. The past few years have seen the completion of many luxurious resorts with names such as Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa, Intercontinental Peninsula Danang Sun Spa and Six Senses Con Dao, entering the market and offering more choices for travelers.

“With our representative office in London for the UK and Ireland markets, we are targeting double digit growth in this market for 2013." said Ha.

Luxury Travel is a long established Asian specialist in luxury privately guided and fully bespoke holidays in Vietnam and the Indochinese Peninsula. Vietnam now has world class hotels and resorts, beaches and cuisine, in addition to its natural beauty, rich history and traditional culture. The country receives 100,000 British tourists yearly, and the number of tourists increases an average of 68 percent annually.

Britons traveling to Vietnam are looking for a more authentic experience and seek to have a deeper understanding of the country’s culture, food, history and everyday life. While Thailand is geared more toward mass market tourism, Vietnam is a destination that is attractive to a more selective class of travelers.

Luxury Travel Ltd.’s booking record indicates that British travelers prefer Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, the former imperial capital Hue and Hoi An Ancient Town.

They also want to visit Halong Bay, the Mekong Delta and Sapa, Mui Ne, Con Dao and the Phu Quoc Islands, while many also combine Vietnam and Cambodia or Myanmar in one trip.

Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator/DMC (www.luxurytravelvietnam.com) is based in Hanoi, with offices throughout Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Luxury Travel is exceptional at designing tailor-made tours and providing unique travel experiences. Opened in 2004, the Luxury Travel Company Limited has its own offices, luxury vehicles, luxury travel advisors, and representative offices in California, London,Paris, and Sydney. The company’s depth of experience and large infrastructure enable it to create unique itineraries with the operational confidence to fulfill client expectations. Luxury Travel Ltd. has won numerous travel awards for excellent performance including the most recent Guide Award in 2012. www.facebook.com/luxurytravelcompany

Incite Creative Shines the Spotlight on Flickering Treasures

Upcoming Photo Book Receives a $10,000 Matching Grant

Baltimore, MD, September 29, 2012 - We remember stars like Clark Gable, Will Rogers, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, whose names appeared on the marquees of our local movie houses, but what about the theaters that made these stars larger than life? The neon signs proclaiming the Stanley, Century, Royal, Forest, Arcade and Broadway are long gone, and the experience of seeing a movie in a gilded setting with velvet curtains is but a fleeting memory for most Baltimoreans. Photographer Amy Davis is bringing our beloved cinemas back to life in her upcoming photo book, “Flickering Treasures: Rediscovering Baltimore’s Forgotten Movie Theaters,” to be published in the fall of 2014.

“Flickering Treasures” combines rare black and white pictures with Amy’s fine art photography to tell the story of these motion picture meccas where movie-goers flocked to escape their daily lives. The quality of Amy’s photos reflects her award-winning work as a photojournalist at The Baltimore Sun. Reminiscences from Barry Levinson, John Waters and others prove that our magnificent movie palaces and humble nickelodeons have vanished from our lives, but not our imagination. These photos and stories celebrating 50-plus theaters tell a fresh story of Baltimore City in the 20th century.

Amy has partnered with Creative Alliance, Inc, a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization, to be the financial sponsor for “Flickering Treasures.” Thus far, they have raised over half of the $45,000 required to get the book to print. To help further raise awareness, donations, and inspire advocacy, Amy contacted Incite Creative, a marketing and graphic design firm.

Incite took a multi-channel approach by creating a direct mail design for postcards that can be delivered as printed copies, as a PDF file for electronic distribution, or converted into a poster-size print. Additionally, Incite designed a Facebook fan page that includes additional information and photos.

“I love going to the movies,” says Dina Wasmer, President of Incite Creative. “After a long workweek, there’s nothing better than grabbing a friend, a big bag of popcorn and settling into a comfy seat in front of a big screen. And no, I’m not talking about a TV. I mean the real big screen! And it’s sad that so many of our city’s theatres have only their marquee left to signify their existence. We all need to escape from reality sometimes and when we learned about Flickering Treasures’ initiative to keep movie screen memories alive, we were excited to play a role.”

Since the campaign began, a local foundation has awarded “Flickering Treasures” a matching grant of $10,000. Now is the ideal time to become a sponsor and share our theater memories with future generations in this high-quality photo book. Contributions for “Flickering Treasures” are tax deductible. Flickering Treasures will also spark a dialogue about how to re-invent our old movie houses so that they can once again become a vibrant part of the community. Be a part of this change by supporting “Flickering Treasures.”
