RedEye Announces New Seminar on Creating a Behavioural Email Strategy

Join us on 17th March 2011 to find out how strategy delivers improved online conversion

London, UK, March 15, 2011 -- RedEye today announces the second of its series of concise webinars focusing on behavioural email, ‘Creating a behavioural email strategy to improve online conversion.’It takes place on Thursday 17th March 2011 at 3.00-3.30pm.

The first technique for making behavioural email work is to develop an effective strategy - spend time getting this right and conversion rates will soar. The easiest way to improve ROI is to convert more prospects already using a website. A clever, joined up behavioural email programme targets hot prospects, achieving results as high as 90% open rates, 50% click-through rates and 10% conversion to sale.

In only 20 minutes, this beginners’ guide will help marketers understand how to implement a behavioural email strategy to target customers (whatever their online behaviour) and effectively generate extra revenue. Relevant to all ecommerce sectors including retail, travel and gambling, the brief session packs in a lot of useful content and uses real-world case studies to illustrate success.

This webinar will provide attendees with the following insight:

* Learn how different behavioural email triggers can be used to target users based on online activity.

* Discover how a simple behavioural email trigger can evolve into multiple email campaigns.

* Understand how a structured behavioural email programme will achieve targeted campaigns that improve conversion and ROI.

Behavioural email is still somewhat of a secret in the online marketing world. Although increasingly talked about, recent research has revealed only 12% of companies are actually utilising it today. This webinar is designed to help anyone interested in using behavioural email understand more about how it works and how they can benefit from it. In addition, it dispels the myth that behavioural email has to be expensive and complicated.

About the speaker
Garry Lee has worked in online analytics for over 10 years and produced the UK’s first behavioural email programme in 2001. Garry currently heads up RedEye’s analytics department responsible for behaviourally targeted systems.

CRI Urges Computer Users to Protect Themselves as Phishing Scams Rise

Dear Sir, I am a Nigerian Prince writing to you for help, as you are the only one I can trust….

Clearwater, FL, March 14, 2011 -- According M86 Security Labs, the amount of unsolicited emails, or spam, received in America has gone down by one-third in 2011. However, instead of being a welcoming relief to email users, it appears that spammers have gotten smarter, and the amount of phishing has gone up. "You have to protect yourself and your company. By falling for a phishing scam, your company could lose hard earned money," warns David McCraney, a Technology Consultant and Certified Information Systems Auditor at Carr, Riggs & Ingram, CPAs and Advisors (CRI). "One of the best ways to protect yourself is by getting educated and educating your employees." Phishing is an attempt to gather valuable personal data, such as social security numbers, passwords, credit card information or bank account numbers, through email.

"There are many suspicious warnings that you are being targeted by a phishing scam," says McCraney. "The classic example is the Nigerian King who needs your help - and your bank account number. But many attempts are less obvious."

A phishing email will impersonate a creditable source, and ask for valuable data. This is not only disastrous personally, but can be catastrophic for businesses and firms. Phishing attempts can range from an email stating your Fed Ex package was returned undelivered to a phony message from an email provider requesting you change your password, to a notice from your bank. For instance, a recent Netflix phishing scam asks Netflix users to update their credit card information by clicking on a link included in the email, enabling phishers to gather valuable credit card data.

Here are some of McCraney’s tips to help companies and their employees avoid becoming the victim of a phishing scam:

* Do not respond. A financial entity will never send you an email to confirm your account information. They already have the information, and they have no reason to confirm it.

* Be on the lookout for emails from contests you have never entered, banks you have never signed up for, or other services you have never used. If you have not done business with the entity sending you the email, it is most likely a phishing scam.

* Be on the lookout for emails from governmental agencies such as the IRS, Social Security Administration, and others. These agencies never send unsolicited e-mails or ask for personal identifying or financial information via e-mail.

* Do not let your employees use their business email address for personal use.

* If you have doubts about the email, contact the company via telephone where the email is saying it is "from". If you have an account with Bank of America and receive and email from them that seems suspicious, call up the company and see if they really did send out the email.

* If you do have an account with the entity, never click on the link in the email. Instead, use the entity’s login link on their website to access your account.

* Use a spam filter. Since phishers send out emails by methods similar to spammers, a good spam filter on all corporate email accounts can catch a majority of phishing emails. However, you should still be wary of suspicious emails should they manage to get through your spam filter.

* Do not post company email addresses on the internet unless it is scrambled (for example myemail [at] emailprovider.com instead of myemail@emailprovider.com) or on a secure site. Many phishers troll the internet looking for email addresses. If you would like customers to be able to contact you through your company website, the best way is to include a form for customers to fill out, instead of providing your email address.

CRI’s proprietary controls have made the company the number one choice for many firms seeking to protect themselves from the idle malice of hackers seeking amusement or financial and personal gain.

While CRI services the Construction, Manufacturing/Distribution, Not-for-Profit, Government, Banking, Healthcare and Professional Service industries, McCraney states that more industries are seeing the need for better IT peace-of-mind.

iPad Security Breach Highlights Need for New Look at IT

With the security breach of more than 114,000 iPad 3G users’ personal information, company financial IT controls are an ongoing concern.

Clearwater, FL, March 13, 2011 -- The iPad hacking scandal which recently led to the arrest of two hackers and left 120,000 iPad 3G users "exposed" is making companies look at protecting financial data differently. David McCraney, a Technology Consultant and Certified Information Systems Auditor at Carr, Riggs & Ingram, CPAs and Advisors (CRI), says that despite well publicized incidents of hacking such as this, computer security and the controls of protecting company financial systems can be obtained.

In June, two hackers from Goatse Security found a security loophole in AT&T’s software and were able to gain access to the personal information of world movers and shakers, including Rahm Emanuel, Michael Bloomberg, members of the U.S. Congress, NASA employees, and top executives from Time Warner, HBO, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.

Even more alarming is the fact that when one Googles "iPad hack", the first link is to a website offering tips on how to hack into the iPad. According to Gov Info Security, a wide amount of 2009’s data breaches were committed by out of work IT experts who are driven to "the dark side" out of desperation to pay bills.

While Apple has a strong reputation in computer safety, the recent events highlight the need for companies need to pay attention to their IT infrastructure and ensure they are immune from malicious intent of mischievous IT maestros - no matter the operating system.

McCraney advises hiring a professional to examine your IT systems and/or IT infrastructure for any potential breaches or weaknesses in security. "A proper analysis of a company’s IT risk assessment can go a long way in avoiding potentially costly problems," says McCraney. "An organization’s exposure to security issues can be limited by following ‘safe computing’ practices and understanding the IT risks."

To highlight McCraney’s point, the "loophole" which allowed the hackers to access AT&T’s site has already cost the company $73,000 to fix the problem. "Companies that are hacked can suffer significant losses, and their customers made vulnerable to other crimes, privacy violations, and unwanted contact," says U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.

While an IT expert can help prevent security breaches, there are several things one can do to safeguard from hackers.

* Update your operating system: If you haven’t upgraded your operating system, there could be weak spots in it which hackers can find. Make sure you download updates at least once a week. This will patch up any holes which can leave you vulnerable to known security issues.

* Use secure passwords: Passwords with numbers, letters, symbols and random capitalization are harder to guess than "1234" or "password". Changing your password often is also recommended.

* Don’t give out your information: Just like you shouldn’t give out your credit card number to strangers, don’t post your passwords or IP numbers. Having this information makes it easier for hackers, so the less you give out, the less likely hackers can get to you.

* Use a good anti-virus software: A good anti-virus/anti-malware program will go a long way in making sure you don’t accidentally download spyware, or other malicious programs seeking to find your personal information. Just like you wouldn’t go into a sick ward without anti-bacterial, you shouldn’t surf the internet without anti-virus software.

Cybercrime Fighters to Meet at Dublin eCrime Researchers Sync-Up, March 15-16

Electronic crime researchers from academia, industry and law enforcement converge on Dublin March 15-16, 2011, for an unprecedented meet-up of eCrime research pioneers who are defining the emerging discipline of electronic crime research.

Dublin, Ireland and Cambridge, MA, March 12, 2011 (Straight Line PR) -- Organized by the APWG in conjunction with University College Dublin's Centre for Cybercrime Investigation, the first annual eCrime Researchers Sync-Up, will be held March 15th and 16th, 2011. The gathering of cybercrime fighters from around the world is a two-day exchange of presentations and discussions related to eCrime research in progress - and for networking of researchers within the disciplines that are defining the eCrime research field today.

"I applaud The University College Dublin's leadership in suggesting and hosting this first eCrime research Sync-up," said Randy Vaughn, Professor of Information Systems at Baylor University, and chairman of the APWG eCrime Researchers Summit, the peer-review conference that spawned the Sync-Up program. "This unique symposium offers academic and industrial eCrime researchers the opportunity to advance and coordinate their research agendas."

Learn more about eCrime Sync-Up at http://www.ecrime.us/cybercrime_UCD

The eCrime Researchers Sync-Up has been established as an extension of the annual APWG eCrime Research Summit held every year in the fall in the United States, an event that has become a vital nexus for the development of eCrime research and its pioneering investigators since it was founded in 2006.

Instead of a formal conference presenting peer-reviewed papers and posters, the eCrime Researchers Sync-Up is an opportunity for the principal investigators within the discipline from academia, industry and government to discuss their research in progress, find research areas of common interest and establish collaborations.

Fergus Toolan, Post Doctoral Researcher at UCD's Centre for Cybercrime Investigation said, "UCD's Centre for Cybercrime Investigation are delighted to host this global event, focusing on solutions to a growing global problem. The eCrime Researchers Sync-up will bring together academia, industry and law enforcement to create an integrated means of tackling the E-Crime problem."

Research in progress being presented will include: Language Models for Phishing, IP Reputation, Killing Zombies and other Botnet Remediation, eCrime Metrics for Measuring Theft Damage, Analysis of Patcher and Carberp crime network, Cybercrime Education for Law Enforcement, and more.

Leading industry speakers to date include Dr. Hassen Saidi, SRI; Fergus Toolan, UCD; Gary Warner, UAB; Marc Vilanova, la Caixa; Jart Armin, HostExploit; Richard Urbanski, AIB; David Perry, TrendMicro; Martin Grooten, Virusbtn.com; Randy Vaughn, Baylor University; Erin Kenneally, eLCHEMY, Inc.; Peter Kruse, CSIS Security Group; Paul Stephens, Canterbury Christ Church University; Andrew Cushman, Microsoft.

For an updated agenda of topics and speakers please visit http://www.ecrime.us/cybercrime_dublin_agenda

"The fascination and strength of ecrime research is the hybrid nature of the discipline. The cross-disciplinary discussions at our research conferences continue to cultivate the dialog that we believe will lead the larger community of stakeholders to durable, sharable solutions to the ecrime threat," said APWG Secretary General and eCRS conference founder Peter Cassidy.

Added Vaughn, "I foresee the relationships established with other researchers and law enforcement eCrime Sync-Up attendees will serve both to strengthen the counter eCrime community and in in fostering new avenues for cooperative research."

Electronic crime (eCrime) research is a relatively new field of study, rising out of the roiling chaos, and in response to, the criminal innovation that followed the emergence of the Internet as a workaday commerce platform.

Over the years, the number of researchers around the world submitting papers to the conference has grown in size and depth of interest into a community that is defining a new hybrid discipline - and required more time to cultivate research collaborations.

AuraPortal Improves INS's Proceedings Support in Costa Rica

This project involves the workflow of thousands of civil servants, more than a million clients, and millions of documents managed by complex and highly automated BPM processes

Woburn (Boston), MA, March 11, 2011 -- AuraPortal (www.auraportal.com), a global provider of Business Process Management (BPM), announced today that Costa Rica partner AIC (Spanish abbreviation for 'International Insurance Adviser') will launch, in April this year, the complete set of business processes within the 'Electronic File per Client' Project at the INS, (Spanish abbreviation for the 'National Insurance Institute' government institution), in Costa Rica.

The AuraPortal Business Process Management Suite (BPMS) implementation will allow the INS, the most important insurance institution in Central America, to expedite the proceedings of their insurance and claims departments through the joint work of three key customer-management processes: Insurance, Data Modification and Claims.

Alvaro Padilla, head of the INS IT Department, stated that AuraPortal's solution "Allows for the customization of all process steps in order to fully automate the follow-up, control, and required regulatory compliance of claims for the associated participants involved. This means that when a customer asks about the status of their claim, the INS will be able to provide an updated status immediately".

Technically this is a major challenge, since the institute's enterprise-wide technology infrastructure must be linked with one common platform from which 2,500 civil servants across a wide network of Offices and Point of Sale locations can access information. In addition, the INS staff must be able to obtain current information about their customers, their policies, claims, complete digital files, and all proceedings that were already in process prior to the implementation of the new system.

Among the benefits to be obtained with this AuraPortal Case Management solution, ('Electronic File per Client' accessible by all staff), will be the significant improvement of administrative efficiency, faster staff and management decision making, and greater flexibility within the IT department to easily adapt and change processes as the INS's business requirements evolve. Staff members will now be able to access all customer information in one unique place, display of all the paperwork submitted by the client, and view the key performance indicator status in management reports with a single click, bringing real-time, online processes status to the entire organization.

Harrisburg University is the only higher education institution in Central Pennsylvania currently offering an academic program in video game design, development, programming and art during the 2010-11 academic year, according to research from the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

The private comprehensive science and technology-focused university offers New Media Design and Production as an academic program for undergraduate students.

Additionally, the University is pursuing innovative approaches to games and learning for performance through its Learning Technologies Master of Science program and its Center for Advanced Entertainment and Learning Technologies. The University also offers an annual Summer Gaming Academy and hosts the annual Learning and Entertainment Evolution Forum (LEEF).

"Prospective students interested in game design and development careers can now stay in this region and pursue the field of study which can lead to a rewarding career in healthcare, education, business or government as well as the gaming industry itself," says Palmer. "The engine behind some of the favorite first-person shooter games is being used to create training simulators for everyone from firefighters to dock workers to medical professionals. Public and private sector organizations in the fields of healthcare, education and business are increasingly relying on computer and video games to modernize and improve their operations."

According to the ESA's 2010 Essential Facts about Computer and Video Games Report, 67 percent of American households now play computer and video games, and 70 percent of major employers utilize interactive software and games to train employees and more than 75 percent of businesses and non-profits already offering video game-based training plan to expand their usage in the next three to five years.
