Enhance Your Most Vital Relationship Building Skills

The number one way to build and maintain relationships is still face-to-face networking. A real handshake trumps a virtual one; a real smile outperforms a smiley face. Networking authority Lillian Bjorseth shows you how through classes and her book.

Lisle, IL, September 06, 2011 - To help people improve their number one way to build and maintain relationships, networking authority Lillian Bjorseth, president of Duoforce Enterprises, Inc., is offering face-to-face networking skills classes in two Chicago, IL suburban locations this fall.

The first class will be from 9 am–12 noon Sept. 27, 2011 at Directions Training, Oak Brook, IL. Cost is $115 and includes Bjorseth’s book, Breakthrough Networking: Building Relationships That Last, now in the third edition.

On Oct. 17, 2011, she will teach relationship-building skills from 9 am–12 noon at North Central College, Naperville IL. Cost is $125, plus $21.95 for the book.

“People like to do business with and hire people they know and trust. One of the surest ways to get people to know and trust you is to meet them in person. A virtual handshake can’t replace a real one, and a smiley face will never be the same as a real smile,” Bjorseth said.

“I’ll help participants determine their target market and where to meet them, develop trust, start and end meaningful conversations with ease, develop a written relationship-building plan, construct an effective Verbal Business Card, follow up and much more,” Bjorseth said.

Bjorseth is an award-winning professional speaker, trainer and coach who has helped tens of thousands of people nationwide boost their business and enhance their careers. She received the 2011 Wordsmith Award and was named 2010 Member of the Year by the National Speakers Association-IL Chapter. She was named 2009 Outstanding Chicago Speaker by Red Carpet Concierge. She is co-founder of the Greater Chicago Networking Extravaganza, the 11th of which will be in May 2012.

JA Carlton’s "Heroes of the Line" Book A Month Giveaway Announces First Winner

Last week JA Carlton’s “Heroes of the Line” Book-A-Month Giveaway announced its first winner. The giveaway will continue on a monthly basis through December with the final winner receiving a copy of all four Carlton books.

Austin, TX, September 06, 2011 - Last Thursday, on Facebook’s “Nick, of Time” page, author JA Carlton announced B. Nolan as the first winner of her “Heroes of the Line” Book-A-Month Giveaway.

The giveaway is part of Carlton’s “Heroes of the Line” child abuse prevention campaign. Carlton has pledged 30% of her personal proceeds toward the prevention of child abuse in America and is giving away a hard copy of the book of the winner’s choice as an award for joining the campaign via a purchase of any of her titles.

The selection of books include her psychological thriller “Broken”, a story inspired by actual events that follows a serial killer as he spirals out of control on his quest to confront the person who tortured him as a child.

“More than 98% of serial killers are created, frequently by the people closest to them. Most are made, not born. We can’t stop creating killers until we understand how most of them are made.” - JA Carlton.

Her sci-fi “Freedom Fighter” series, consisting of the currently available first installment, “Wednesday’s Child” and its sequel “Into the Fire”, takes an almost prophetic look at the results of the current American sociopolitical climate.

The series takes place in 2055 where the American nation is a 3,000 mile wide graveyard. 70% of the population has been eradicated by shadowy government agencies. It’s a modern day genetic cleansing program that has forced the remaining citizens to fight for their very survival against those who are supposed to protect them.

“The only reason I have to call it fiction is because it simply hasn’t come to light yet.” She says.

And finally, the “Heroes of the Line” series after which her child abuse prevention campaign is named.

The first book, “Nick, of Time” introduces the reader to Nick, and Frank Emerson, two young brothers who learn they are destined to lead a band of heroes in a war against the Living Dark and its sinister agents, the Schades.

The common thread among Carlton’s books is that the main protagonists (even Randy Custon, “Broken”s serial killer) have all endured horrific childhood traumas. Critics argue that Carlton’s writings are exceptionally graphic for little other purpose than ‘shock value’, and others claim the works a means to feed society’s desire for more and more gratuitous violence.

Carlton says, “I like to think they’re warnings to think about how our actions echo forward. But most importantly, a message of hope to victims that abuse can be overcome, and that in spite of it, survivors can be heroes if they choose.”

Carlton’s books are published by Uneak Press, Inc. a small Austin, Tx. based press that prides itself on being a haven for storytellers, wordsmiths and artisans. Uneak chooses to highlight authors who are passionate about their craft and more concerned with getting the story out than following formula. They’re also invested in local talent like their newest addition to the family, supernatural thriller writer Will Holloway, and local artists Heather Ellis and Avery Beckett. Uneak Press, Inc. is currently open to submissions by aspiring authors.

VH1 Classic MTV Music Video Artist Michael Sciuto Re-Releases '80s Music Album

Eighties musician Michael Sciuto announces the re-release of his classic album, "Edge", as well as two never-seen-before '80s music videos.

Los Angeles, CA, September 03, 2011 (Straight Line PR) -- Most people who lived through the 1980s still reminisce about the stars that glittered on the music scene during that decade. While many artists have faded from memory, the genre they left behind is still hugely popular today. '80s music has a perfect blend of anti-establishment rebelliousness woven in with pulsing good time grooves, catchy hooks and clever lyrics.

Bands like INXS, Duran Duran, Flock of Seagulls and Robert Palmer dominated the charts in the '80s, and their sound and style is very much alive today in the hearts of the Generation X and Baby Boomer populations.

Michael Sciuto is one of those '80s artists who has remained active into the 21st century. Having been featured in an '80s MTV music video with Dennis DeYoung, lead singer of Styx, Sciuto also toured with John Stamos of ABC's Full House in the band Jessie and the Rippers, as well as a brief stint appearing on ABC's Full House TV show. He was endorsed by Marshall Amps and Ibanez Guitars, and he created some designs for those companies back in the '80s. As a studio bass player, Michael has appeared in many sessions on the LA studio scene, performing on tracks for a variety of artists.

Sciuto recently re-released his '80s music album "Edge" after overwhelming requests from fans of the '80s music genre. Also being released this year are two remastered Michael Sciuto music videos that have not been previously published.

Of course, Sciuto's best-known video appearance was in the short, iconic video from the classic days of MTV, where he is seen playing bass with the lead singer from Styx, Dennis DeYoung, in his solo effort, "Don't Wait For Heroes." This Dennis DeYoung video can still be found occasionally on VH1 Classics, or it can be viewed on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dJlSxiczhc

Sciuto was originally signed by music mogul and manager Monty Lipman, of Universal Music, who went on to sign artists such as Taylor Swift and Amy Winehouse. Later, Sciuto also worked with Steve Longo Management, who was with Westwood One Radio at the time.

"Most baby boomers are now easing into their golden years," said Sciuto, "but '80s music reminds them of what life was like for them almost thirty years ago, giving them a fresh glimpse back into their past." The "Edge" album was actually released in 1988, but became popular in Europe in 1999, showing how timeless Sciuto's music can be. Shortly thereafter, Sciuto got busy raising a family, and dropped out of the music scene for a while, never actively promoting "Edge" in the United States. The album's title song, originally called "Living On the Edge", was written years before the release of Aerosmith's 1993 tune, "Living on The Edge", prompting Michael to shorten his title track to simply "Edge". "Now, years later, it is great fun to hear from fans who reconnect with my songs," says Sciuto.

Today, Michael Sciuto works behind the scenes in many online endeavors and has now brought "Edge" back off the shelves for re-release here in the states, as well as the worldwide stage, for '80s music lovers everywhere.

His classic '80s album "Edge" is now available at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/michaelsciuto

About Michael Sciuto:
Studio musician and songwriter Michael Sciuto has been involved in the music industry and LA music scene for many years. Having toured and recorded with his brother Tony Sciuto, Michael won the Marshall Amplifiers Marshall Stun Solo contest in 1986. His work is now enjoying a resurgence as interest in '80s music is being renewed.

Online Gaming and Entertainment Company Appoints Game Developer

Listed online gaming and entertainment company 2UP Gaming PLC (2GM:GR) has appointed Australian game developer 3 Sprockets to produce its first animated 2UP game.

London, UK, September 05, 2011 - 3 Sprockets specialises in producing games and applications for web, desktop and mobile devices.

2UP managing director Peter Bentley says the appointment is a milestone for the company in creating the game playing mechanics and automation behind the coin toss game.

“Appointing 3 Sprockets is a major step in moving forward with the evolution of the 2UP suite of products,” Mr Bentley says.

“The mechanics developed by 3 Sprockets will utilise the Unity gaming engine, a leading industry development tool, to operate our game with full 3D effects.

“2UP will allow users to play against other people from anywhere in the world, either for fun or for money.”

Mr Bentley says there are decades of experience between the staff at 3 Sprockets, and 2UP’s decision to award the contract to them will take advantage of their knowledge and expertise to ensure the game is appealing and interactive for users.

“The design will allow users to interact with the game and choose their own avatar when they log on to play,” Mr Bentley says.

“The sound effects and overall atmosphere for the website will create a unique experience enabling users to be immersed within the game.

“Multiple virtual rooms will be designed from an ‘Aussie outback’ theme in a tin shed, to the high end ‘Casino Royale’ style, with more themes to be added over time.”

3 Sprockets director Seon Rozenblum says building the 2UP game is something very exciting and different for the company.

“The company has been wanting to do something new, and 2UP is different to anything else out there at the moment,” Mr Rozenblum says.

“This means the opportunity to develop the 2UP game is really exciting for us, as we get to leverage our expertise in the Unity engine into a new breed of online gaming.

“The process will be a 6-month project and should be ready for closed live testing by the end of the year.”

Mr Rozenblum was creator and owner of Melbourne based Sector3, a successful Game Development, Animation and Visual FX company that he sold in March 2010 before establishing 3 Sprockets.

The core focus of 2UP Gaming PLC is the coin toss game, a game that is played in most countries around the world where players make a call on whether two coins being tossed in the air will fall as two tails or two heads. A correct call wins.

This will be underpinned by other unique and established gaming and wagering options to be released as part of its growth plans.

Worlds First Dual 17-Inch Display Laptop, Seeks Distribution

The SpaceBook 17-inch dual screen laptop will be shipping to customers in November 2011, starting at $1899 with free shipping and a 30-day money back guarantee to the USA and Canada.

Anchorage, AK, September 02, 2011 - The SpaceBook 17-inch dual screen laptop will be shipping to customers in November 2011, starting at $1899 with free shipping and a 30-day money back guarantee to the USA and Canada. Designer, Gordon Alan Stewart, gScreen Founder and CEO, invented the SpaceBook because he needed a mobile workstation for editing video, photography and web design while traveling on a 6-month Hawaii film project.

The SpaceBook is ready for global distribution and to that end, gScreen Computer Corp., is seeking country-wide distributors that are interested in an exclusive distribution deal for the countries of: Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, India, Korea, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, UAE and the Middle East region. Distributors will have the ability to have product delivered direct from the factory in November and December 2011.

Microsoft's, Ben Rudolph reviewed* the SpaceBook- "...when I run across something that’s truly groundbreaking, something totally unique and never seen before, I get excited. Like really, really excited. And that’s exactly how I felt when I first got to use the gScreen... SpaceBook. The SpaceBook is unlike any laptop before it. Rather than have a single display, it has two that slide out from the center to create and amazing panorama display. Both panels are 17” full HD (1920 x 1080) glass, available in either a glossy or matte finish. It’s a really amazing design that’s really functional; the panels slide open and closed very easily..."

The SpaceBook will help users get up to 50% more work done when compared to a single screen alternative according to a Microsoft** study. The SpaceBook is a mobile workstation and a desktop replacement solution for business and personal use. Individuals and businesses from many industry sectors have ordered or shown interest in the SpaceBook, including, but not limited to: stock traders, doctors, digital content creators, photographers, cinematographer, engineers, accountants, sales, web designers and the US DOD.

The SpaceBook, at 10-pounds, weighs about 3-pounds more than the average 17-inch laptop (7-pounds), but gives users an extra full size 17-inch screen for mobile productivity. Specs include Windows 7 Pro, Intel i7 quad-core CPU with 8GB DDR1333 RAM, webcam, 500G HDD, NVIDIA discreet graphics, HDMI and Super DVD ODD. Customers can opt-into the free "Trade-back" program so that they can trade in their first generation SpaceBook for a 2nd generation when released and receive a 50% credit towards their new SpaceBook with new specs. Customers can also sign-up to become affiliates and offer the SpaceBook to their friends for $100-off while earning themselves $100, giving customers the ability to buy a SpaceBook for $1699.

Stand Out Author Connie Podesta Reveals 3-Steps to Out-Perform the Competition

After coaching, counseling, interviewing and speaking to hundreds of thousands of people in all industries, it's become clear to Connie Podesta, author of "10 Ways to Stand Out from the Crowd," that three areas demand full focus and attention to ensure success in the business world: Strengths, skills, and self-improvement.

Dallas, TX, September 02, 2011 (Straight Line PR) -- Success really is as easy as 1-2-3, says award-winning author Connie Podesta. First, we must leverage our strengths whenever and wherever possible. Second, take every opportunity to develop the skills necessary to reach our goals. And third, commit to a plan for self-improvement so we can overcome any limitations that stand in the way of achieving the results we want.

"Success is not just about focusing on your strengths while failing to commit to self-development and continuous growth," says Podesta in her new book "10 Ways to Stand Out from the Crowd" ( http://www.ConniePodesta.com/booking/ ). "Success is about stretching yourself beyond your limits and developing new strengths from existing shortcomings."

Here's the shortlist on how to do just that:

Leverage Your Strengths: This is one of the smartest decisions a person can ever make. Strengths are the things we were born to do. The things we love to do. Using them naturally enhances our mood and builds confidence. Surprisingly, though, many people can't pinpoint their strengths. So dive in right now with pen, paper, or word processor. List every last strength inside, keeping in mind that successful people know exactly what strengths they can pull from at a moment's notice.

Develop Strong Skills: This is all about supporting and complementing our strengths, says Podesta (more STAND OUT STRATEGIES can be found at http://1clik2.com/10Ways2StandOut ). Few strengths can stand on their own without great skills to back them up.

The difference between strengths and skills is that skills don't always come easily. Think of the things we rocked growing up (strengths) and the things we later picked up in school (skills). So identify, learn, practice, and stay up-to-date with skills in order to turn a mediocre strength into a major contender and virtual powerhouse of talent.

Commit to a Plan for Self-Improvement: Once we have our power of strengths and skills, we need a source for that power. Begin a plan for self-improvement, where we look for our limitations instead of our strengths. As Podesta advises, "The most powerful strength you can have is truly knowing yourself." Our limitations do not have to define us. They are simply our personal set of unique challenges. So start aiming to turn limitations into "abilities" instead of "liabilities."

One. Two. Three.

Go.

"These are the tools you need to begin to create the successful future you desire," says Podesta. "Add a sense of purpose and the incentive to be the best you can be... and you can't help but stand out from the crowd." Her YouTube video, "Motivational Speaker Connie Podesta on Your Strengths" can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0qZQHcFVtA

About Connie Podesta:
Connie Podesta ( http://www.ConniePodesta.com/speakingtraining/ ) brings new meaning to the term "powerhouse." With quick wit and extraordinary insight, she makes people both laugh and think. She compels both audience members and readers alike to create action plans that build strong foundations and even stronger futures. She cuts to the basics, giving people reliable, repeatable success strategies that make change feel more like opportunity than obstacle. Podesta is an important, game-changing addition to any corporate event.

Crowne Plaza LAX Hotel Achieves Green Seal™ GS-33 Certification

The Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Airport Hotel is proud to announce the achievement of Green Seal’s bronze level certification under the GS-33 Standard for Lodging Properties.

Los Angeles, CA, September 02, 2011 - The Crowne Plaza Los Angeles Airport Hotel is proud to announce the achievement of Green Seal’s bronze level certification under the GS-33 Standard for Lodging Properties. This accomplishment verifies that the hotel meets a rigorous set of environmental standards designed to reduce impact on the environment and human health.

“Our certification with Green Seal speaks to the determination of our staff to take a stand for environmental stewardship and put action to our values,” states Moussa Ndiaye, hotel manager. “This was truly a team effort, and I am very proud to work with such a dedicated team.”

The hotel general manager, Michael Payton, states that decision to become Green Seal-certified stemmed from two emerging trends: the growing awareness of environmental concerns among travelers, and the need to verify and quantify environmental practices. “The Green Seal standard provided us with both the road map and the accountability measurement we needed to confidently move ahead in our sustainability efforts,” states Payton.

Becoming Green Seal-certified is no small feat. Hotels must implement and document practices that minimize waste, improve energy efficiency, conserve water, improve indoor air quality, reduce harmful chemical usage, and demonstrate commitment to environmental purchasing. There are currently less than 125 hotels worldwide that have earned certification through Green Seal.

The Crowne Plaza LAX participated in the Gateway to a Greener L.A. initiative, a business community program that provided resources to businesses within the district to implement green practices that lead to measurable environmental improvement. The program was led by Julie Baylor, a green hospitality consultant in Los Angeles, who provided guidance and direction through the certification process. To date, the program has resulted in four Green Seal-certified hotels within the district, representing nearly 40% of the business district’s hotel guestroom inventory.

About Green Seal:
Established in 1989, Green Seal is a national non-profit organization that has developed science-based certification standards for products and services that meet rigorous environmental requirements. The GS-33 standard for lodging properties requires hotels to demonstrate sustainable business practices in the areas of waste minimization and reduction, recycling, energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, and environmentally sensitive purchasing. www.greenseal.org

SeeS (S Double E S) Starts New Record Label, Launches Website, SeeSHipHop.com

CT local artist SeeS (S Double E S) defines passion and grind by starting his own record label and website to “SeeS Control” of the music industry.

Farmington, CT, September 02, 2011 - Chances are you have never heard about SeeS (S Double E S), but that is about the change, and make no mistakes that is a positive thing for Hip Hop. CT’s own local artist Scott Sheldon, known by stage name SeeS, is beginning to make moves in the music industry and has begun to welcome the much overdue support that his talent warrants.

In the past two years SeeS has been able to accomplish an amazing amount for an unknown and unsigned artist, and because of this work that will soon change.

In the last two years SeeS has started his own record label to promote himself, CT Corporate Takeover, collaborated with Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck from Wu-Tang as well as multiple platinum producers, created an official EP “SeeS Control”, secured a distribution deal with Bungalo/Universal Music Group for two of the singles, produced a top notch music video for his single “Mad At Me” (Feat. Diana Fuentes), produced two commercials for Mega Education that aired on Comcast in CT, completed interviews and got air play on Hot 93.7 the #1 Hip Hop station in CT, and managed to design and manage a fully functional website, www.seeshiphop.com, where all of these accomplishments can be seen and heard.

A true prodigy, SeeS has been writing and performing Hip-Hop songs since the age of 13 (now 25). SeeS was raised in the affluent suburbs of Hartford, CT, not exactly a ‘hotbed’ for Hip-Hop music. But this ironic environment simply serves to underscore his phenomenal natural talent. In the mid-90’s while Hip-Hop’s wave of popularity was exploding worldwide, SeeS, a young adopted teen living in privileged suburbia, struggled mightily with identity, individuality and sense of purpose. Hip-Hop culture captivated him. He loved it. It offered him an outlet and the freedom to express himself without limits.

Do Hip Hop a favor and learn more about SeeS. Visit his website http://www.seeshiphop.com, or simply Google (S Double E S), follow him on twitter @sees09, and Facebook www.facebook.com/sees09.

Businesses can use Lawsuits to Fight and Prevent Fraud

Fraud is a growing problem for businesses of all shapes and sizes. Each year organizations ranging from small businesses to giant corporations lose billions of dollars to fraud.

Atlanta, GA, September 01, 2011 - Fraud is a growing problem for businesses of all shapes and sizes. Each year organizations ranging from small businesses to giant corporations lose billions of dollars to fraud. Fraud is getting worse as sophisticated scam artists using the latest technology increase the size and scope their crimes.

To make matters worse, many of these criminals operate overseas where they are beyond the reach of American law enforcement. Organized gangs of fraudsters are now reported to operate out of countries such as China, Russia, Nigeria and Estonia. It can be difficult to track these people down and often hard to hold them accountable.

The crimes they perpetuate against companies include accounts payable fraud, accounts receivables scams, embezzlement, insurance fraud, invoice scams, bank fraud, identity theft and computer hacking to name just a few. Unfortunately law enforcement can have a hard time locating and prosecuting such individuals particularly if governments overseas refuse to cooperate.

One option that U.S. businesses have is to file lawsuits against such criminals in American courts. Even if the funds stolen cannot be recovered, the criminals can be held accountable for their actions. If they have funds or assets in the US, the court can seize them. If any person or organization in the US is helping the criminals, their assets and funds can be seized in the lawsuit. It might even possible to sue foreign governments that are helping or shielding fraud artists.

Because lawsuits are public record, such lawsuits can also generate negative publicity and embarrass the foreign government involved. Such publicity can alert other businesses to the existence of the scam and warn them to avoid getting ripped off. It can also trigger settlements or repayments of lost revenues in order to “make it go away”.

Filing such a lawsuit is a new or novel idea. In the past, Americans have sued foreign nationals, foreign corporations and foreign governments and won. In 2010 for example, New York lawyer Howard Fensterman sued a number of parties in Abu Dhabi on behalf of a group of American investors that had $18 million stolen from them while trying to start an insurance company in the United Arab Emirates. This lawsuit embarrassed the UAE government by insinuating that the Persian Gulf Country was not a good place to do business.

What to Look for When Choosing the Right Brisbane Plumber!

Choosing the right Brisbane Plumber is something that you should think about even before you experience trouble with your plumbing system, says Australia leading plumbing specialist, Paul.

Brisbane, Queensland, August 31, 2011 - “This is usually not the case since many people only think about finding a plumber when they are already faced with the problem. However, if you are looking for the right plumber, you have got to check out the Brisbane Plumber’s website, www.bestbrisbaneplumber.com.au, where you’ll get some useful tips and information about finding the right plumber,” said Paul.

The following is a check list that the Brisbane Plumber would like to share with you:

You should ask for the license number of the plumber Brisbane. This should not be a problem if the plumber Brisbane is operating his business legally. If you feel uncomfortable asking about this information, you can always say that it is required by your insurance company. Make sure that you jot down the information on a piece of paper for future reference. This is an important step to ensure that the plumber Brisbane is really a professional and has the right to offer his services to other people.

Another important consideration is the kind of services offered by the plumber Brisbane. Does he only fix minor troubles or does he also do installations? More often than not, reputable plumbers offer almost all types of plumbing services—from repairs to installations. But still, you need to ask yourself if the plumber Brisbane offers the kind of service that you need.

Before making repairs or installations, it is important to ask the fee that the plumber Brisbane usually charges. Does he charge a fee on a daily or hourly basis? Does it depend on the kind of service that you need? Does it include materials, tools, and other things required to finish the job? Things like these should be cleared up before you even hire the plumber Brisbane. You do not want to hire someone who is way beyond your budget or who charges a lot of hidden fees.

Make sure that the Plumber Brisbane also offers warranty. This is important especially for plumbers who are new in this business. You have to ensure that your rights as a customer are well represented in the contract between you and the plumber Brisbane. If the Plumber Brisbane does not want to guarantee his service, it would be better to try another plumber who is not afraid of offering warranty to his customers.

Choosing the right Brisbane plumber is beneficial in many ways, as according to Paul, you can save money, have peace of mind, and have a fully functional home plumbing system that makes your bathtub, toilet, shower, and sink run smoothly.

However, before you can enjoy the benefits, you first have to know how to find and choose the right plumber service. And to find the right plumber in Brisbane, Paul said you have the option of asking your friends or real estate agent, and you can search the internet or your telephone directory. “In choosing the right plumber,” he said, “some things you’ll need to consider will be the license, rates, types of services offered, and whether or not the plumber Brisbane offers warranty for his services. It is important to be 100 per cent sure about your choice before you decide to hire a plumber Brisbane.”

Business and Investment Fraud Overseas

Business and investment fraud overseas seems to be a growing problem for American businesspeople.

Atlanta, GA, August 31, 2011 - Business and investment fraud overseas seems to be a growing problem for American businesspeople. In addition to all of the scams originating abroad that target American businesses--such as accounts payable and accounts receivable scams--there are many accounts of Americans being ripped off after they do business in foreign countries.

For example many Americans get lured to seemingly modern countries and asked to participate in business ventures. Scam artists are able to do this because some of those countries lack the legal protections available in the United States. For example, there is no SEC and no SEC disclosure rules to require companies to reveal details of their operations. Many companies do not have modern banking regulations so it is often easier to steal money placed in a foreign bank.

Another reason why con artists may try to lure Americans to do business in a foreign country is that the fraudsters often have local political connections. They may have friends or relatives in the local government who will protect them even if they commit blatant crimes against foreigners, whether these are Americans, British subjects, Canadians or Australians.

Fraud Overseas

A typical example of this was exposed by a lawsuit filed in a Florida court by New York attorney Howard Fensterman. Fensterman alleged that he and his clients were lured to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates to help organize an insurance company. To facilitate this deal they had to put $18 million in a UAE bank, yet the money was simply stolen from the bank. The investors filed suit in the U.S. to recover their funds.

This kind of fraud can occur even if you are lured to a foreign country by its government or prominent citizens. In some cases they may even be in on the scam.
