Tips for Post surgery Success from Signature Smiles

Minor dental surgery is something that most of us can’t go through life avoiding.

Great Neck, NY, January 18, 2012 - Minor dental surgery is something that most of us can’t go through life avoiding. If you have dental surgery coming up, make sure that – in addition to making sure all your questions are answered prior to your upcoming dental procedure – you also prepare yourself for any post-procedure discomfort you may experience.

For example, pop a (small) bag of frozen peas in your grocery cart the next time you go shopping, and keep it handy for when you return from your surgical appointment. Holding the bag of frozen peas to your face at ten to twenty minute intervals for the first 24 hours following surgery will help minimize any facial swelling. Do not apply heat within the first 24 hours, as this will make swelling worse, and may incubate bacteria, potentially resulting
in the spread of an infection.

Following your surgery, we will place a gauze pad on the surgical area to limit bleeding while clotting takes place. Make sure to continually bite down on the gauze, or keep the pad firmly pressed on the spot for at least an hour after leaving our office.

Following surgery we recommend you not smoke, drink from a bottle or through a straw, nor spit forcefully, as you could disrupt the surgery-healing clot.

Last but not least — make sure you take it easy after any surgery.

Rest and relaxation decelerate your circulation, which in turn slows down the bleeding and will help you recover faster.

New Online Resource for International Students Launched; Releases Report for Colleges Recruiting Abroad

UniversitiesAbroad.com features a directory of educational opportunities throughout the world; offers research to help colleges and universities recruit international students

Chester, PA, January 17, 2012 - UniversitiesAbroad.com, an online resource for international students interested in studying outside of their home country, was launched today, making information about educational opportunities at colleges and universities throughout the world, including those in the U.S., more readily available. The site features a comprehensive directory of more than 150,000 degree and certificate programs that is searchable by desired location of study and program subject, format or level; from undergraduate and graduate degree programs to certificate and associate’s level programs. For international students looking to learn in the U.S., it also provides tools and resources to help them better understand the American university system and college application process.

“Going abroad for a degree is incredibly attractive to many international students. It offers the opportunity to gain a global professional network and a diverse educational experience, as well as can help graduates become more competitive in the job market,” said Joshua Irons, Director of Product Marketing at UniversitiesAbroad.com. “However, finding the right university and program abroad can be time consuming and difficult, so to help international students we’ve compiled the information and resources they need in one convenient location.”

For colleges and universities interested in recruiting these international students, UniversitiesAbroad.com today released the report, “Recruiting International Students: How to Succeed With This Expanding Market Opportunity.” The report features findings of a UniversitiesAbroad.com survey of 600 colleges and universities throughout the U.S. about their current marketing practices. Among the findings:

More than half (54.8 percent) of the schools allocated 10 percent or less of their marketing budget to international recruiting, an amount expected to continue.

The top three approaches to recruiting were international student fairs, independent international recruiting agents and online lead generation sites that target student prospects. Respondents indicated that the latter two provide the greatest ROI.

Half the respondents were planning to use online lead generation sites that targeted international student prospects for their future recruiting.

The research offers these results and more, as well as best practices to help schools better recruit international students. According to recently released data from the Institute of International Education, during the 2010/2011 school year 214,490 new international students enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities, an increase of 5.7 percent over the previous school year; the total number of international students enrolled in U.S. institutions was 723,277.

“We expect international student interest in programs outside of their home country will continue to increase as more and more countries determine that an educated workforce is their most effective way to compete in the global economy,” continued Irons. “This presents a valuable window of opportunity for institutions around the world to benefit from recruiting abroad.”

New Teacher Center Deploys GoingOn to Enhance Participation, Outcomes & Increase Engagement in e-Mentoring Program

Innovative Network Allows New Teachers to Connect with Experienced Educators Nationwide to Share Best Practices, Enrich Curriculum Development and Improve the Quality of Instruction and Student Learning; Also Supports Race to the Top Grant Program in Maryland

San Francisco, CA, January 17, 2012 - GoingOn Networks and New Teacher Center (NTC) announced today that NTC has implemented GoingOn’s Academic Engagement Network in support of its e-Mentoring for Student Success (eMSS) program. The GoingOn platform provides a more effective, modern environment where new teachers can foster connections and better communicate with others in the program, share resources and participate in online workshops, as a way of advancing high quality math, science and special education instruction. New Teacher Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving student learning by accelerating the effectiveness of new teachers and school leaders. eMSS is an innovative nationwide content-specific online mentoring program that increases the retention of new math, science and special education teachers by supporting their professional growth and development.

“For more than 20 years NTC has offered new teachers comprehensive mentoring and professional development programs to help them succeed in the classroom,” said Ellen Moir, New Teacher Center Founder and CEO. “Our e-Mentoring program is an important part of our efforts, making it possible for new teachers to connect with mentors and a network of other experienced educators from across the nation, including teacher leaders and established mathematicians, scientists and special education university professors.”

In addition to serving as the platform for eMSS, NTC is making GoingOn available to members of its National Teacher Induction Network and California Leadership Network to provide communities where teacher leaders can discuss resources and tools, as well as share best practices. National Teacher Center is also using the GoingOn platform in support of an NTC online professional development program in Maryland that is funded by a Race to the Top Grant. This program helps teachers across the state connect, communicate and collaborate with one another.

“The GoingOn platform provides us with a fast and cost effective way to gain the benefits of today’s social web technologies to engage our teachers and allow them to more effectively leverage all the resources we have to offer,” said Alyson Mike, Director of Online Professional Development at the New Teacher Center. “We looked at more traditional portals, but they simply could not provide the combination of both facilitated learning and unstructured collaboration that we need to best engage our teachers and ensure lasting success.”

Currently nearly 1,300 educators – including new teachers, mentors, teacher leaders and university professors – are utilizing the GoingOn platform as part of NTC’s programs. NTC plans to expand its use of GoingOn in 2012.

“The quality of our children’s education is only as good as the quality of our teachers,” said Jon Corshen, CEO of GoingOn Networks. “We have all seen the impact of the social web on how we connect, share knowledge and even how we shape our world. We want to bring that power to improving the quality of education in schools and colleges as well as the ecosystem of organizations advancing the way we teach. We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the mission of National Teacher Center.”

The GoingOn solution being used by New Teacher Center is an integrated platform for streamlining communications, fostering meaningful connections and facilitating collaboration across a highly distributed community of users. The platform combines rich content management capabilities with integrated social networking tools and intelligent Facebook-like activity streams to create a holistic and highly engaging collaboration environment. Delivered as an on-demand solution, GoingOn is easy to configure and deploy without requiring large upfront investments and development.
