Dunkermotoren Acquires Copley Motion Systems
U.K.-based linear electric motor developer and manufacturer to become Dunkermotoren Linear Systems.
Elgin, IL, August 04, 2011 - Dunkermotoren GmbH, headquartered in Bonndorf, Germany and the parent of Dunkermotoren USA Inc. (Dunkermotor), has acquired the Copley Motion Systems (CMS) business, based in Basildon in the U.K. CMS develops and manufactures highly dynamic linear motor systems. The CMS operation, which is the inventor of the tubular linear motor and an innovation leader in linear direct drives, will be known as Dunkermotoren Linear Systems.
Dunkermotoren currently develops and manufactures configurable, customized solutions based on brushed and brushless DC motors with integrated power and control electronics and fieldbus interfaces. Within a modular system, these motors are combined with Dunkermotoren’s own designed and manufactured planetary and worm gearboxes, as well as with its encoders and brakes.
"We are excited to be able to provide this expanded range of solutions for our existing customers and market segments," said Dunkermotoren managing director Nikolaus Gräf. "The new Dunkermotoren Linear Systems technology and product lines are logical complements and the extended product portfolio gives our globally positioned sales team the chance to offer even more comprehensive solutions to the customer."
With compact form-factors and fast repetitive motion, the new Dunkermotoren Linear Systems actuators are natural candidates for productivity-enhancing innovations in multi-axis automation. In typical configurations, they can be 10 times faster than traditional ball screw systems and their intrinsic simplicity and ruggedness enable millions of trouble-free operating cycles required by today’s innovative mechanisms.
Headquartered in Elgin, Illinois, Dunkermotor is the North American sales, technical support and logistics subsidiary of Dunkermotoren GmbH, for 60 years the world market leader in customized, configurable sole-source fractional horsepower motion control solutions made up of BLDC, PMDC and AC electric motors, gearmotors, controls, encoders and brakes. With headquarters in Bonndorf, Germany and production and/or logistics facilities in Europe, Asia and the U.S., Dunkermotoren employs close to 1000 globally and produced over 3 million motors in 2010 for the factory and commercial automation, medical, semiconductor, solar tracking, and packaging industries.
